Two C's Tea - Cascara and Wild Maine Chaga: Chaga is a mushroom that grows on birch trees in the northern latitudes. It has long been prized for its medicinal properties. Here in Maine, it is often harvested, dried and simply placed on the wood stove in a large pan and left to steep for hours or days before being consumed either hot or cold. We, however, like our chaga with a bit more flavor so we've ground it and blended it with our cascara and various spices to produce a delicious and healthy beverage.
Palate: cinnamon, allspice, cloves, chaga
Finish: citrus, honey, nutmeg
Cascara is Spanish for 'husk' or 'peel' and is used to describe dehydrated coffee fruit. It is higher in antioxidants than cranberries and is delicious to boot! This remarkable fruit has been consumed as a tea for thousands of years. In fact, it was enjoyed long before people learned to roast the beans inside in order to make coffee as we know it today.
With its history and health benefits, not to mention the fact that each serving can be steeped twice, we couldn't resist making a line of teas with it. Each tea has every ingredient carefully weighed, ground and mixed by hand to ensure the best possible flavor. We then carefully package each tea in a sealed bag which is then placed in a tube along with a half dozen empty tea bags (just in case you don't have a tea infuser handy).
